Dawnell McIntosh DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC

Dawnell is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) who joined Mahadevia Sleep Consultants in 2017 and specializes in sleep medicine.  Dawnell completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa), and then completed her Doctoral degree in Nursing Practice, and a Masters degree in Nursing Education, and Organizational Leadership at Clarke University (Dubuque, Iowa).

Dawnell's nursing career spans 26 years, with extensive experience and training in the area of interventional cardiology, cardiovascular critical-care nursing, and medical-surgical intensive care nursing.  Through her years of critical care nursing Dawnell obtained “hands on” experience with a broad variety of cardiovascular and respiratory patients and became familiar with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), and ventilator therapies in treating obstructive sleep apnea, and other respiratory complications. Dawnell completed clinical hours with Mahadevia Sleep Consultants while completing her Doctoral degree, and this experience peaked her interest in becoming a health care provider specializing in sleep medicine.

Dawnell has a great interest in disadvantaged patient care populations and has volunteered her time at out-lying homeless shelters; educating individuals on health and community health resources, and screening individuals for hypertension and diabetes.  Dawnell completed her undergraduate project at the Scott County Health Department focusing her research on disadvantaged and homeless populations, and community care resources available to disadvantaged populations.  Dawnell believes that patient education is a key element in delivering high-quality patient care, and completed her doctoral research on patient health literacy, and the correlational impact limited health literacy has on patient health outcomes.

Dawnell holds two national board certifications; one with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as a board-certified family nurse practitioner, and the other with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), with certification in Progressive Cardiac Care Nursing (PCCN).  Dawnell is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), and the American Association of Sleep Medicine (ASM).

Dawnell believes that sincere caring and compassion are essential elements in delivering high-quality patient care, and that every patient has individual needs that require personal attention to detail. Dawnell is excited to be part of Mahadevia Sleep Consultants and looks forward to serving you and meeting your sleep and healthcare needs.
